[OSX] AVI opening lag

Postby poochie2 » 24 Oct 2004 08:25

I'm running OSX 10.3.5 on a G4 1.33 Ghz (PB 15"). Is it normal that each time I open an AVI file with VLC, it will skip the first 10 seconds of the movie and give me a "too slow" warning? This only happens if the movie wasn't already open, but doesn't happen with both QT or MPlayer. Any hint?

You should first open VLC and then play the file. VLC is multithreaded, so it starts immediatly playing the file, even if it is still finishing up launching the program and similar stuff.

I made some tests. The first movie I open, anyway, still suffers of the delay. I'm using it for some new XviDs, but happens with MPEGs also. Shouldn't the threads be synchronized so that the movie can play flawlessly?

No they are synchronized on live time (since VLC was primarly developed for live high resolution streaming). Wether your CPU is fast enough to launch VLC properly is totally irrelevant for the program.
