sorry if this has been discussed before but i tried searching and couldn't find anything.

how do i stop the filename from showing up when i play a video? i use vlc not only for videos but also for presentations and it kind of ruins the setting to see the filename show up when i'm trying to present something professional.

thanks.

Yeah,I have solved this problem.Just add "--no-video-title" to the command line, then the filename won't be displayed. :D

Hi,

You should just be able to go into advanced video properties and uncheck the "Show media title on video" box.

On the Mac version you click Preferences -> All -> Video -> Show media title on video.

You can remove the file name on web or not. Means it is easy to remove the file name from desktop VLC but when i embed it in web then it is not possible to remove the file name at the start of the file.
Can you remove this filename it creats alot of problems to me.

I have some twists to this old question. I want to burn a bunch of videos to a DVD and I want to make some changes:

1. I want to keep some of the tiles already included in the videos.

2. For the videos without titles I want to add them.

3. I want to strip out the format from all of the titles.

If anyone can answer these questions thank you in advance!

This Worked for me on my Mac

Top Left Menu Bar Click > VLC > Preferences > Subtitles & OSD

UN-checkbox the "Enable OSD" (top of that screen)

Should be similar on PC but will likely say "Settings" rather than "Preferences"

I have asked this in a new post as none of this works for me. I don't see any of those menu options at all. I would have thought it would be better to have the default to NOT show file name and only add it if you wanted it. Who wants the file name too show on a video?

Don't know why it's like that for you but the @dtbpro's solution works perfectly for me!

I found a similar way to remove it on Windows.

1 With the VLC Media Player open, click highlight "Tools" to pop out tab
2 Look at the bottom of the pop out tab for "Preferences" and click to bring up new setting window.
3 Look in the bottom left corner of the new window and make sure you see "Show Settings" with 2 Bubbles "Simple" and "All"
Click "All" to view all available settings
-You should see an extensive list with a search bar at the top
-Type in 'Video' to filter for video playback settings
OR
-Scroll down the list for the Video section and click "Subtitles/OSD"
4 In the 1st section "On Screen Display" look to the 3rd object "Text rendering module" and the drop down menu to the right
5 Find "Disable" at the bottom of the drop down list. Select and click save at the bottom right of the menu window.

I usually double check by simply clicking to the end of the video and repeating to confirm it worked.
