Forcing audio delay

friends
i have some movies (in vob,avi format ) .. the problem with the video is that the audio is listened after some time in the movie from the time it was actually spoken .. for eg -- if the hero says "hi " then it heard after a long time when in the video he is talking else( i am gettin used to lip reading
)
i wonder if ther is setting in vlc player ( in audio or video filter in particular ) which could help me put a amount of time delay in either video or audio to correct the difference
at present i m solving it by playing two player simultaneously with a start delay of 3 sec between them so that the audio and video in the movie match each other.
