I send the signal through VGA to my Samsung widescreen tv...
How do I set the video to always stretch to that ratio?
In the menu I can switch right by chosing Video->Ratio->16:9(instead of Standard).

How do I set it to always send the video as 16:9?

You can change the aspect ratio setting in the preferences. Which VLC version do you use?

0.8.6b

Where in settings?
To underline - I want 16:9 as default output ratio.

Ok, then go in the preferences, click on the "Video" item and set the value of the "Source aspect ratio" field to 16:9. If that doesn't do what you want, clear that value, click the "Advanced options" checkbox and set the value of "Monitor pixel aspect ratio" to 16:9.

That seems to work - thanks!
