Get VLC to load the entire file to the RAM

Postby anok » 20 Aug 2008 20:39

I want an option that lets me put the entire video file in the RAM. This would be useful because now when I write 7GB to disk 2, and at the same time play a file from disk 2, I get lagg. This would not be the case if it stopped for a few secounds to load the entire thing to the RAM. This would also put less stress on the hard disk if you watch movies. Alternatively I want it to continiously have 10MB read from the video file.

You would need to have a 64-bits system to begin with, and of course at least 8 Gb of physical memory. Then you can either recompile the mmap file access plugin to mmap more at a time, or store the file to a RAM disk.
