Streaming to a flash based player - non-profit

Postby dynamo » 14 Aug 2008 23:29

Hey there,

I'm looking to setup a solution that let's a small non-profit stream a live feed from their site to a flash player embedded in a webpage, ideally using open source software.

My thinking is that this will go something like this.

Video Camera -> Computer (Apple) -> VLC on Computer --(1.5 mb/s)--> VLC on Server --(100 mb/s)--> Users

So any recommendations / pointers?

I'm thinking of course of which flash client to use? Which VLC settings. I've spend some time poking around the wiki, knowladgebase and forums, and while there are a lot of options havn't figured out which pieces and which settings work together best.

Am I going about this wrong? We could also pay for a commercial service. I'm pretty technically savvy, but have no clue about media streaming, background is linux / programming.

Thanks for any help.
