Mpeg2 TS Stream

I sometimes record digital satellite signals (mpeg2 ts stream) using progdvb. when playing this stream with vlc i can hear the sound but do not see the images, instead "messages..." gives me the following list of errors (vlc 0.7.0test3).

What can i do?

Looks like a corrupted stream to me.
Could you upload a short extract somewhere so I can have a look ?

This file consists of a short sequence of n-tv (german news broadcaster) showing a dog searching survivors in Bam, the current time (16:02), and some scrolling text on the bottom of the page. Size: 4,61 MB (4.841.472 Bytes)

It works fine using mplayer (linux), or windows media player (+elecard mpeg2 decoder).

If you solve my problem, you might possibly solve the problems described in "Problems playing DVB-S captured MPEG", too.

I, too, seem to unable to play mpeg-2 TS. It shows a blank screen, maybe with a logo (so methinks the first frame), and only 0.00/0.00 in the time. From perusing this forum after having this problem, I know I am far from the only one. Obviously 1.1.11 has some problem with its codec for this file type. I don't expect to get help on it, since there's nothing the player can do, but I hope this is fixed for the next version of VLC.

I can assure you that VLC does play TS files and has done so very well since before version 0.8 when I first started using it.

Note that this thread subject is 8 years old and hasn't been active since until someone posted a spam link.

You don't say where your TS came from.
You mention getting only a logo or first frame - did you try to copy/rip it from a DVD?
In that case your problem may be that you just copied the wrong VOB.
The VOB which is used for the menu background for example may consist of a single frame or a short sequence.
Or you are running into copy protection on the DVD which is outside the scope of VLC or any other media player.

Wow, I hadn't noticed how old this thread was. Sorry about that. Still, the fact remains that I've seen much more recent threads by people who couldn't play TS, and that while VLC can't play my particular file, PowerDVD can, so it isn't a problem with the file itself. To answer your question, it was straight from the web, not copied from a DVD. It's an HDTV rip, in fact, of a silent film, about 3 hours long. As said before, it plays all three of those hours fine on PowerDVD so it is a VLC problem.

You could try viewing messages (under tools) and setting verbosity level to 2 (or 1).

The log messages should give you a clue as to what VLC is doing and maybe why there is a problem in your case.
