SMPTE 302M Audio Codec

Hi all,
I am attempting to play back some Hi-Def mpeg2 1080i (45Mb/s) public service announcements, but cannot get the SMPTE 302M audio to decode. SMPTE 302M is apparently a wrapper for an AES eight channel audio stream. I get an occasional burst of static, but that is about it. VLC's stream info shows the audio to be four channels of lpcm. I have tried playing these files on both Linux and Windows with the same results. If anyone wants to try playing this file format, here is an example: http://wdtv.com/downloads/nctapsa01hi.mpg . Be warned, it is 232MB!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make VLC play back these files?

[EDIT] I did not clearly state that the video portion plays perfectly. It is just the audio that fails. [END EDIT]

Thanks,
Lexridge
