ALaw Audio Codec Broken in 0.70-Test2??

I recently upgraded my installation of VLC 0.62 to 0.7.0-Test2, on Mac OS X 10.3.2, running on a new Al-Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz 15". It seems that VLC's ability to play ALaw 2:1 audio is broken (or at least I think it is). All I hear is (loud) static (video is OK though), trying to stop the file or close VLC causes VLC to stop responding - but the static is still playing - and it requires a Force Quit.

Files in question are .avi files, DivX video track, with ALaw 2:1 audio track. These files played fine on 0.6.2.

I am a relative newcomer to VLC, so I do apologise if I've missed something obvious. I have already tried deleting everything to do with VLC, including the prefs files, and reinstalling... but it hasn't helped. After searching the forums, I've also tried changing the coreaudio output device to 1 (it was -1), but this hasn't helped either.

Otherwise 0.7.0 seems to be a big step forward, so well done to all the developers on an excellent upgrade!

Thanks!

http://download.videolan.org/pub/testin ... -test3.dmg

Try this and let us know if this fixes the problems. I think a bug concerning alaw was fixed since test2

Thanks for the download link.

I can confirm that the affected .avi files with an A-Law audio track now play fine in Test-3.

Great work Mr. DJ!
