Videoconference Movie Streaming

Is it at all possible to stream a video file so that it appears to be a webcamera to videoconferencing software ? For example, if I were to open a video it would appear to be a webcam to, say, Skype.

There is an existing third-party module called VLVC which adds more advanced features for Video Conferencing:

Perhaps VLVC is not quite what you are looking for however one can stream e.g. a video file using it. As for streaming to Skype - presumably for that a virtual device would need to be created which Skype can then use (never really used Skype though).

Aah - just tried that actually. Sadly, though it'd work if the recipients of my video were willing to install VLC + plugins ... they aren't.
But the solution is called a "virtual device" ? I'll do some Googling (thanks !).
Edit: 'Ended up using a program called 'SplitCam'. It looks legit, and works fairly well - I just wish that VLC supported this sort of thing natively ...
Edit2 : Scratch that, it only has support for video. Now I'm going to have to find a way to route system sound into my mic.
