Video Starts then Stops

Win XP SP3 VLC 0.8.6f All settings at VLC default

Recorded a DVD which VLC starts, displays menu and runs fine for 13 seconds and then the video freezes and the audio stops.

Disk is ≈47 minutes. I know nothing about video file formats, codecs, etc but the video file is a "standard" DVD two folders: VIDEO_RM & VIDEO_TS.

All help will be appreciated!

EDIT: Counter and slider keep moving but picture frozen and no audio. After a couple of minutes frozen, plays normally for a minute or so, then freezes for a couple minutes, then plays, etc.

Plays fine in the DVD recorder where I recorded it - and I did "finalize" the disk.

I'm running AMD Athlon 64 x 2 4800+ at 2.45 mhz and 2 GB RAM so I don't think there is a hardware problem.

Thanks.

Maybe a change of the video output modules? Location: (VLC) Preferences -> [expand] Video -> Output modules. Try one, save, and restart the video, repeat this process with all of the available output modules and report if there was any difference between them that you could see.

Thank you for the reply. I have mailed on the DVD in question and can no longer test with it.

Hi

sorry to revive an old thread but i am having the same problem. We are using the vlc plug in within a custom application, however i have installed the latest version of vlc player and tried it with that and get the same outcome.

menu comes up, the dvd has lots of small chapters with a menu system having 6 chapters per page. selecting any chapter will start to play that selected chapter, it plays fine for a few seconds, then the video output freezes. unsure about sound as the dvd's have no sound. the slider and counter keep moving.

your able to go back to the menu and select another chapter, which starts to play but suffers the same problem.

i have tried changing the video output modules as suggested before but this either makes it work the same or not work at all i have also tried removing all the options in the video preferances (skip frames, accelerated video output, window decorations, use hardware YUV->RGB conversions) and all give the same problem.

Anyone got anything else to try??

Pete
