Timeshift with mp4

Hi,
I've been trying to use timeshift with mp4 file placed on a http server. The result was rather poor - the video (divx-encoded) broke up - the image was all blury (it looked like old DivX3 after rewinding). Is it possible to use timeshifting in conjunction with mp4 container?
