[Solved] VLC 0.8.6g 0.8.6h and multiposte free

Hello guys!

First of all, thanks for this great job that is VLC.

I'm starting this thread to present a problem you maybe already know, but I haven't found in this forum. The problem is the compatibility of the last versions of VLC with the "multiposte" ADSL TV offer from Free ISP. In those versions, VLC shows few seconds of a stream (from http://mafreebox.freebox.fr/freeboxtv/playlist.m3u for the Free consumers) and then freezes with a log like this:

Code: Select all

main debug: using opengl provider module "macosx" main debug: using video output module "opengl" main debug: got 1 direct buffer(s) main debug: picture in 480x576 (0,0,480x576), chroma I420, ar 16:9, sar 32:15 main debug: picture user 480x576 (0,0,480x576), chroma I420, ar 16:9, sar 32:15 main debug: picture out 480x576 (0,0,480x576), chroma YUY2, ar 16:9, sar 32:15 main debug: looking for chroma module: 6 candidates main debug: using chroma module "i420_yuy2_altivec" main debug: indirect render, mapping render pictures 0-7 to system pictures 1-8 main debug: waiting for thread completion main debug: thread 4035047424 (video output) created at priority 37 (video_output/video_output.c:421) main warning: dts != current_pts (892417) main warning: vout synchro warning: pts != current_date (-40000) main warning: late picture skipped (509967) main warning: late picture skipped (272242) main warning: late picture skipped (32669) main warning: late picture skipped (77643) main warning: late picture skipped (37787) main warning: late picture skipped (-2206) main debug: decoded 72/105 pictures
This example is from Mac OS X VLC, but forums around the net describes the same problem with Windows or Linux versions.

By the moment, version 0.8.6f works like a charm. But I would like to continue updating and getting corrections for other things... So, is this problem known by the VLC team? Is there already a workaround? Is it a VLC issue or a Free issue (Free is much harder to contact than VLC that's why I'm starting here)?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my questions, and thanks again for VLC. Keep on with this great program!

same problem here :'( os X 10.5.3 intel

I have also this message :
playlist: m3u EXTVLCOPT parsing is disabled for security reasons. If you need it and trust the m3u playlist you are trying to open, please append --m3u-extvlcopt to your command line.

11/06/08 13:35:38 [0x0-0x3f03f].org.videolan.vlc[449] libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS duplicate (received 15, expected 0) for PID 0

Bug confirmed on Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or Linux Ubuntu 8.04.
VLC 0.8.6{g,h,i}, 'multiposte' freezes every 10 seconds.

I am reverting to VLC 0.8.6f and it works like a charm !

Message to symbol : This kind of message is just lame.

Sorry for the delay, I just realised the mail reply watcher was not activated for this forum in my account :/
Which logs do you need (if you still need them)?

I've also posted some info in this thread today. Maybe you could merge them, as they refer to the same bug.

How to get a PPC build with this fix?
Will it be integrated on next release of VLC?
I don't care about waiting some more time on 0.8.6f if this get fixed on newer releases. What would be annoying is to get definitively stuck on this version as the last one compatible with my computer, what doesn't seem to be the case, fortunately.

Seriously, 0.8.6f is fine... Except a few security issues...

Try 0.9.0 development versions.

I think you didn't undertand me as we are almost saying the same thing.
I've tested 0.9 test 3 and this bug is corrected in the PPC version.
So, by now I will stay in 0.8.6f and patiently wait for the 0.9 final that seams to come with lot of GUI changes. I particularly appreciate it as the GUI is the weakest point of VLC in my opinion. But it still a great software and free. The community is doing a great job, what to say more? Thanks a lot! That's all.

PS: I'm marking this thread as solved as I got an answer to my problem.

I had the same problem with vlc and mplayer on Archlinux. I found that updating live-media (live555.com) to the latest version 2008.07.25 and recompiling vlc (and/or mplayer) solves the problem.
