Internet HTTP Streaming in HD

Hello.. I have VLC media player and when I try to view an HD stream it plays and then stops in the middle of it..
is there any way to make it where VLC media player can cache the whole movie ahead of time and THEN play it so I wont have these interruptions.
The HD stream i view is an hour long.
Is there any way to make it stream better because i notice it's a general problem and as soon as it gets it.. it plays it then stops again (doesnt even take time to cache any data or buffer)
