Pre-release: VLC 0.8.0-test2

The VideoLAN team is happy to announce the second, and hopefully last beta version of the upcoming VLC 0.8.0.

This is a major update. Main features include:
* Completely rewritten input system (better, faster, improved seeking, more extensible - eg. allows multi-input support).
* Re-write of the transcoding layer. (everything VLC plays can now be transcoded).
* New plugins cache system to dramatically speed up launch time.
* Improvements to the subtitles/OSD subsystem.
* Vastly improved DVD support.
* DirectX Media Object decoder/encoder (Win32 only - supports WMV3).
* Cross-platform OpenGL video output with special effects
* New screen capture input plugin (to stream your desktop).
* Windows Media Server RTSP support.
* Multipart JPEG demuxing/muxing. (for video streaming to a Mozilla Web Browser)
* DVB subtitles decoding/encoding.
* Audio equalizer.
* New streaming wizard and other interface improvements (many more controls in extended GUI in wxwindows)

Playing Xvid seems to kill VLC, last row of crash log says something about the dreaded APE. I tried adding VLC to the APE exclusion list, but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe it doesn't have to do with APE?

MacOS X 10.3.5 - iBook 700MHz 640MB RAM. Tested on two different .wmv files. First one played fine, both audio and video. Second one started OK, but after a few seconds, video froze, audio continued OK.
Couldn't find a crash log specific to VLC, but the 'Messages' windows displayed the following output. I apoligize for its length, and hope it helps.

VLC does some pretty ucommon work. Basically VLC is not a Mac OSX application, it's a linux application that's just very well dressed in a Mac suit. It cheats all over the place.

If you are a APE user, you could contact the APE developers. They have certainly more experience with this that the VLC developers.

do you mind if i post about my opinion about your lastest project of VideoLan?

anyway, i found that it is worest than vlan 0.7 because track time is really bad.

for example, you click um a veritically things on track and it will jump to about each 1:15 minutes. (.7 is about 1 mintues) .. why not normal click it on track whatever i want.

- can't anaylsis ogm or mkv or avi's time.. like it will show 2:30 hours instead of 21 minutes. .7 is a bit better but still not slove jump time.

- just use 1x, 2x, and 4x ... not use "faster" and "faster" -_-

- in .8 when you use 2x and stop the video then play it again with 2x again... that anoying... it should be playing with original speed.

last thing... both of them (.7 and . is subtitle in ogm and mkv they doing really bad when video is playing at 2x or 4x speed....because "b" text overlap "a" in a few milliseconds.


my suggestion of feature... add brigthness and contrast like wmp's. (just thought)

The VLC media player unexpectedly quits after having errors detecting the subtitles. Tried converting sub to srt but text comes out jumbled. Cant wait till the final version of VLC comes out.

I am using VLC 0.8.0 test 2 on OS X, and the "Float on Top" menu item no longer works.

To reproduce, click "Video" and select "Float on Top" switch to another program and VLC doesn't stay on top.

Anyone else see this?

Hello,

First off, let me say I love VLC and have been using it for years. But I've noticed a problem that's cropped up in the two 0.8.0 test releases. I searched the forums and nothing similar seems to have been posted.

I can no longer select "Video:Video devices" in 0.8.0 to play a movie full screen on my second display (my TV). It is grayed out. I have 0.7.2 installed as well, and it will allow me to select Video:Video device:Screen 1/Screen 2. So it seems something's gotten a little crossed in the 0.8.0 beta test releases. I've looked over the Prefs (normal & advanced) and no setting change is blindingly obvious to me that would resolve this. I've also tried deleting preferences, and this hasn't solved anything. This feature is a handy way for quickly playing movies full-screen on my TV.

My setup:
Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz, 1GB RAM, OEM Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB w/Apple DVI->video out, Mac OS X 10.3.5 (7M34). VLC 0.8.0-test1 and 0.8.0-test2 are both affected.

Thanks for such a great app, and let me know if you need any more info to sort this out.

test 1 on one of my xp computers refused to even launch. it would show a process was running, but there was no indication of any program i could see. test 2 does the same thing on my other xp box. theres a process running. but i cant see anything at all.

I've not had luck with either of the 0.8 test releases - they like crashing on files I know to play fine on 0.7. This is on Mac OS X 10.3

Have to say I do like the new features though. Much anticipation for the full release.

Oh, for the OS X version, what are the chances of coordinating the equalizer presets with iTunes's? The windows look very similar ... loading in the right pref file would be a nice touch for everyone who has their own set made up.

MP4 files playback is constantly out of sync and it worsen when i play around with the seek bar.

Could you be a bit more precise which kind of files you are trying to play? Which kind of Mac do you use btw.? A G5?

i am suprised that it can show the sub which can not be shown on the old version.but it is not cleat at all.
vobsub can show it much more clear.

and how can i make the sub remain there not disappear when i play mkvs or ogms?give me some advices please.

it can support wmv3 now.what a good present.i will try it later.
