I am primarily a linux user but I have the necessity of a windows machine and I am trying to use the windows version of VLC since winamp now really sucks. And I have to ask, does VLC skip in mp3 playback for you other windows users? It keeps sputtering occassionally, is this documented? It plays video very well, but it labors with mp3s? I have a fastish computer to boot.

it's more that vlc can be very picky about timestamping and syncing, and that a lot of MP3 encoders suck at producing proper files.

This has been discussed before. Try searching for "streaming roots"

I seems that VLC is still chirping and skipping on streamed mp3 (at least mine is, on OS X).

mplayer and iTunes handle it just fine.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
