Which version of QuickTime does VLC support?

Postby bugmenot » 01 Apr 2008 05:26

I am a Windows 2000 user, and can only use QuickTime 7.1.6. I have read that there were a lot of security problems that were fixed in QuickTime 7.2 and later. So I want to know if I can just get rid of QuickTime and install VLC. Will that make me up to date with the latest version of QuickTime? What version of QuickTime does VLC support, 7.4.1 or a different version?

VLC only can play very few old QuickTime files. For newer ones you need to have QuickTime installed. VLC then can use this a bit like "external codec" ...
