Screen flickers when switching videos in a playlist (Linux)

I've tried streaming a playlist and while viewing it with the Linux VLC (Mandrake), the monitor goes blank for a second every time a video ends and the next one starts playing. This can get pretty annoying when streaming a playlist of several short videos

The problem does not happen:
-If Windows VLC is used for viewing
-If the playlist consists of videos of the same size and codec.

I would appreciate any tips on this, or if someone has noticed the same problem under Mandrake/other distributions, so we can start tracking down the problem.

there is no way to fix this at the moment....
it is an issue with our core, which cannot recognize the fact that the window can be reused in this particular case.
