I thought that it would play avi. Made a short movie with "Windows Movie Maker" and saved it for "Digital avi" and VLC would not play it. Had to play it with "Power DVD" I thought it would play just about any file. I really like VLC thought better then "Windows Media Pllayer"

Avi is a container. It can have all sorts of types of video and audio codecs inside, some of wich can be played in vlc (as well asome wich can't). You should examine the file with a tool like Gspot to see what codecs are used inside. Also: no vlc version and no OS version given.

Never used limewire. But, if a file has not completed download, it might not play. It all depends on wich "parts" of the file you have, as the begigning and ending parts of the file are important for vlc to make heads of tails of it.
