Hi,

is it possible in VLC to play the video from a video file (.avi, .mov, .mkv, ...) but hear the sound at the same time from a sound track file (.dts, .ac3, ...). How can I do this?
I would thank you a lot if you can help me!

vlc file.avi --input-slave file.dts

This might work.

Is there no option in the GUI?
And how can I set audio-/video-delay?

For the GUI, wait for next version or use development builds.

For the delay, yes, you can, look at the hotkeys in your preferences.

You can change the audio delay up by pressing k and change it down by pressing j on the keyboard.

If I start VLC like this, I am able to select an additional sound track, but if I select it I won't hear anything. Why? Maybe DTS not supported?
But when I play the .dts file alone in VLC it works without problems.

Maybe VLC can't sync it... Messages should tell you.

gosh, this is such a simple option, why couldn't they built it into the GUI?

Go to:
Media >> Advanced Open File...

And tick the "Show more options" checkbox. Then tick "Play another media synchronously..." and select the input-slave file. To change the audio track when playing go to "Audio >> Audio Track..." etc.

Personally, i don't see why people want to complicate stuff like this. Just get a file WITH audio. Then you don't ever have to look for options in the GUI (regardless of how obscure they are).
