Making my own crop aspect?

Hello,
I'm wondering if it is possible to set my own crop aspect insted of using predefined ones? I am watching 1080p movie, but my monitr can show only 1680x1050 (the movie is 1950 in width). So I want to cut the edges a little, to hide black borders (on top and bottom). The 16:9 would be good, but it cuts a little too much, so I thought I will set it to 16:8, but I can't see any option to do that. Possible?

You should be able to do this. Select VLC and go to Preferences -> Video -> scroll down and you'll see "Custom crop ratios list" type in the ratio that you want and save your settings. Within that same menu you can force a crop ratio by selecting "Video cropping" then save your settings and restart VLC.

Thanks!

Also, next to it I discovered the Custom Aspect-ratios list.
Quite useful for those weird sized things where a combination of cropping and changing the aspect-ratio is needed to make them look good.

This doesn't work for me with VLC 3.0.17.4 on Windows.
I've created a 1.66:1 custom crop, it appears in the list but it has absolutely no effect at all.

That works a treat, thanks for the tip :)
That said, 5:3 already exists in the default list and it's working fine
