Cannot Create new surface out of video memory

When I open a video like an avi file with VLC and then go to enlarge the screen I always get, Cannot create new surface out of video memory . Program will exit. What does this mean and how can i fix it?

I have a similar problem,when I load up multiple files, it can't handle more than 2 or 3 and I get this error. A few years ago I had this problem so I posted it here, shortly after the advise was to do an update and that fixed it. The reality was the program had a bug and now it's back !!!! Could someone please look into this.
