Browsing for videos via http interface?

Postby sherifffruitfly » 02 Sep 2004 20:41

Hi all,

A few days ago someone here nicely told me that this was possible, by editing the browse.html file (line 22, remove underscores from "_directory_").

I did this, and can access the browse.html page, but no file listing comes up, nor does any apparent way to navigate up and down directories exist. All I see is (1) A header telling me what version of vlc I have, (2) a disclaimer paragraph saying the page is disabled, (3) a table with 3 column headings "File ()", "Size", and "Date", and (4) a little copyright text. There's just no files listed, and no way to change directories.

Looking thru the html, I see that there are a lot of vlc tags - certainly not standard html :) Is there something I need to do to make these "active"? Or is the problem I'm having something else?

I've tried with both the latest release .72 or something, as well as the latest nightly build - same result either way.

Thanks a bunch for any help,

cdj

This is because no default direcotory is selected.

Try /browse.html?dir=/location/to/a/directory
as a URL

<blush>

I take it this is one of those even-tho-it's-windows-you-still-use-*nix-style-directory-pathnames?

thanks again - in the future I'll spend a few minutes actually looking over the code b4 asking inane questions......
