Movie DVD OK on full screen but not in windowed display

Postby blacktusk » 02 Sep 2004 07:50

VLC v 7.0.2
Windows Me
Toshiba Laptop P4 256MB RAM
NVIDIA GFORCE2

Movie DVDs plays OK on full screen, but usually not on windowed display. I just get a grey screen.
Sometimes it works when I switch to advanced GUI, usually not.
Sometimes it works when I switch interlacing to blend, usually not.
Sometimes when I switch interlacing it crashes.
Usually it shows the introduction screen (Warner Bros etc), then goes bland.
The audio is OK.
The slider bar at the bottom of the window fast forwards/backwards OK.
I have tried opening on the Quick Open, Open File and Open Disc methods.
The application seems quite unstable on anything except full screen.

Any suggestions please?

Hello,

First, the crash-on-switch-deinterlace is a known bug in vlc 00.7.2;

could you try the latest test version http://download.videolan.org/pub/testin ... est1/win32 and see if you still have problems ?

If you do, try updating your video card drivers;

then, try to disable overlay (preferences, video, enable "advanced preferences" and untick "overlay video output")

vie DVD OK on full screen but not in windowed display

Postby blacktusk » 02 Sep 2004 17:34

Hi, and thanks for the reply.
I installed the new test version, and it no longer crashes. But now I get a grey screen both in windowed and in fullscreen.

In video advanced settings I cannot find tickbox for "overlay video output". I have tried various settings without knowing much of what they mean!.

I have confirmed I am using the most recent video driver.

Anything else I can do?

Sorry, now found the tick box By scrolling down!) and disabled overlay but still no windowed display.

Boxes enabled in Video Prefs are: "On screen display" "Enable Video" Video output and filter are set to "default".

Very occasionally when I restart VLC it does play in windowed mode but that does not seem to be consistent with any changes I make.

Could you try to go into the preferencs -> modules -> interface -> wxwindows and disable "Embed video in interface".
After that, restart VLC and try to play something again. Is it any better ?

I disabled "Embed Video". When I re-start VLC it comes up in windowed mode with the control panel separated. Same as when I switch interface tp wxwindow.
This is ok, though it would be nice to have embedded mode working.

Another problem, in wxwindow mode the extended GUI does not work - the video controls don't work (I have enabled them).

I have also installed the very latest NVIDIA screen manager and video drivers.

Just would like to say that I had the same exact problem on 0.72. It worked fine in windowed mode after disabling the embed option.
