Hello I finally figured out what was up with it and got it installed on Red Hat 9. Sweet it looks really nice.

Next the reason why I swiched to Red Hat and Linux was to get away from microsoft and so far it is working the way I wanted except I am having the same problems or kinda the same ones. You see I am picky and want to output sound out the SPDIF port to hear DTS on my DVD's but the option "Use the S/PDIF audio output when avaulable" Doesn't work it isn't putting it out via that is there some way to force it to use that as it's default output??

Here is some additional Error Information:

IE it's not just passing it threw like I want it's trying to decode it.

AFAIK, only the "alsa" audio output plugin provides an S/PDIF output so first you should make sure your linux kernel has been compiled with the new alsa support. Then check if your vlc was compiled with alsa support as well (vlc -l|grep alsa).

the OSS output also provides spdif. I think what might have happened here is that the default sound track had some other codec that A52 or DTS. I think most spdif units can decode both lpcm and mpeg audio as well, but vlc can't output these through spdif.

Could you provide the output of vlc -vv?

If some one could run threw what some of this means that would be helpful in future posts aswell.

As for the post for Gibalou I am not sure how to check to see if my kernal has been compiled with the new alsa support how would I check that.Finally the vlc -l|grep alas returned:

alsa ALSA audio output

Which I believe is good?
