Press the "Start" button, go to "Control Panel", when the window pops up double-click "Sound and Audio Devices", Click on the "Audio" tab and select "Advanced" under "Sound Playback", Click on the drop-list under "Speaker setup" and select "5.1 surround sound speakers".
For VLC, select the player and go to Preferences -> Audio -> (check the box) Use S/PDIF when available, save and restart VLC.

I want 5.1 but when i open a DVD the default audio now is A/52 over S/PDIF

Opps. I think this setting is meant for Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and not the regular 5.1; disable that option that I told you to enable earlier (Use S/PDIF when available).
