Watching a video in slow motion

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I've been using Video Lan for more than a year now.

I recently tried to play a video in slow motion, but couldn't figure out how. I tried doing google searches, but I kept finding forum posts about Video Lan "being really slow" so that videos played in slow motion when the user didn't want that.

Is there a "slow motion" command for VLC?

Yup. The easiest way to access this is to use the minus ( - ) button. The plus ( + ) button is to return to regular speed and/or increase the playback speed.

Odd, the plus and/or minus keys don't do anything for me in OS X.

Edit: Whoops sorry, a bit hasty there. Works like a charm, although it would be nice to have indicators (percentage perhaps: +10%, 0% and -10%), rather than having "slower" and "faster" displayed on the screen.

Thanks CloudStalker, I am very very new to the player also :)
As far as the indication is concerned, if you look at the very bottom of the window, under the navigation/progress bar, there is initially a "x1.00" meaning 100% speed. The lowest it would go for me on this video was x0.13, and highest x8.00
Hope this helps :)

It seems incredible, but despite a lot of amazing features,
there is no way to go below 13% speed, neither to advance
frame by frame.

I consider it to be the only major feature VLC lacks.

Check this:
viewtopic.php?=&p=102313

Most, if not all, users have VLC as default viewer.
It is really a pity that slow motion and frame by frame skip
are not available !

I think you can go slower than that, but yes, no frame by frame.

I use the double arrows << & >> on the control panel, to either side of the time slider, directly under the image in non-minimal view. Each click on the left arrow, which is tool-tipped "slower," slows the action more and each click on the right arrow speeds it up.

But when one video ends it reverts to normal speed. How do you keep slow motion between clips, or even set slow motion as default? Thanks!

Changing the rate for the whole "session" is supported in version 1.1.0 onward (see playback preferences).

My version is 1.0.1 and the latest available is 1.0.5, so I take it this per-session slowdown can't be done? There's no "preferences" on the playback menu, just a slowdown arrow control that does the same as the one by the timeline slider

Is 1.1.0 a project in development, or currently available? A google search for it yields 1 hit:

Thanks!
