frame by frame navigtion

There are specific frames I'd like to get a snapshot capture of in a video of a dog jumping over a hurdle, but when I use slow motion, I can't stop on the frame that I want.

Is there a way to advance, frame by frame, to facilitate snapshots of specific frames/

Maybe. Check out the advanced options in VLC 0.9.0 nightly builds (trunk).
