VLC Player Not Working Correctly

OS: Mac OSX (ver. 10.3.5)
Problem: VLC Media player not working when trying to play commercial dvd and when attempting to copy DVD, error messages pop up.
Error Messages as follows:
access_output_file: cannot open `'
main: cannot delete object (213, (null)) with a parent
stream_out_standard: no suitable sout access module for `file/ts://(null)'
main: stream chained failed for `std{access=file,mux=ts,url=""}'
main: cannot delete object (211, (null)) with children
main: cannot start stream output instance, aborting
main: cannot delete object (210, (null)) with children

main: cannot delete object (217, (null)) with a parent
