Speed Control

Is there a way to adjust the speed VLC outputs a file (not FFW)? Sometimes I come across a file that plays too fast or too slow and I'm like to be able to adjust it manually. Plus, when watching things such as educational videos I find that I retain information better when it's playing a little faster than normal.

Sure! Play Faster >> or Play Slower <<

But there will be no audio as VLC does NOT employ a variable sample rate

That isn't true anymore. The developement version now changes the audio's rate too (no pitch correction is available yet though). You can give it a try on http://nightlies.videolan.org/ .
