As you can easily see by looking at the posts on these forums in the last couple of days/weeks the only possibilty to play these files under Mac OS X is the usage of MS's Windows Media Player 9 Mac-Edition. There no no codecs you could install, not even for MPlayer or QuickTime.

Don't even think of playing WM9 on any Mac...MS has crippled Media Player on the Mac so that you CANT play WM9 smoothly on the Macs...
I just tried to play them on a brand new 2.5Ghz G5 (4gigs of ram) and even the 720p drop about 25% of all frames.
The only explanation is that MS has crippled the WM9 codec on the Mac.

Windows Media Player 9 does not support wmv3 codec for Mac
Mplayer also cannot handle the "dll" with this codec.
Is there a way to convert even on PC this codec into a more common codec for mac? Software?

Incorrect. WiMP9 for the mac does support WMV3. but only in ASF, and even then not well.
You see? MS sucks

Sorry WMP won't play .avi files encoded in wmv3
so, can you convert win media 9 - even on a wintel ?

I have serious reservations about Win media 9's DMR, embedded links, scripts and security ...
I've looked but not found ... has anyone cracked the DMR yet ? Is there anything that'll intercept a digital stream on a wintel at the appropriate place (DMR or not) and allow capture and conversion to something more useful and less intrusive & dangerous ?
