problem for reading mpg and xvcd

hi, i have a problem with VLC : i can't read any mpg or xvcd files. i have 2 mpg videos ( i think mpg2 ) but i can't read them.
Is there someone who could help me ???

( sorry for my english, i'm french )

the most recent version of vlc should be able to play mpg.

Could you please post some error-messages, if any. Have a look at the messages-log (either view->messages or window->messages) to find some more.
Do you see a black window/rectangle where the video should appear? Which system do you use?

Btw. VLC supports MPEG2-files at least since version 0.4.5, but probably since 0.3.x so it shouldn't be a problem with VLC's capabilities. The support of XVCD depends on your operating system.
