Increasing performance on OSX

I want to hear from the VLC developers on different ways or preference setting to increase performance of VLC running on OS X (10.3.4)...

Here is my settings...

Dual 1gig G4 MDD running a completely pristine OS X 10.3.4 (no third party hardware except for Revo 7.1 drivers and ATI Remote Wonder drivers.)

1.75gigs of ram.

8 bay Firewire 800 tower running 8 250GB drives, plugged into a Firewire 400 PCI board...Firewire 800 PCI board coming soon.

Sanyo Z2 (1280x720) via DVI and Apple 22 ACD via ADC...

I can run almost all 1080i transport streams at 1280x720 to the Z2 with no problems but I noticed that some of the higher bitrate streams seem to stutter just a little.

DVD's are perfect and are not a worry.

What is the best way to tweak VLC to get the most of the Dual 1Gig system to avoid any stutters and skips on higher bitrate streams???
