How do I disable the "Open Recent" feature?

How do I disable the Open Recent feature (found in the File menu in OS X's version) or automatically clear its list when I quit VLC?
I've gone through every single(!) option found in the basic and advanced preferences and cannot seem to locate this option to disable and enable. Using 0.8.6b.
