looking for the right solution

We stream video for our church using Windows Media Server. I want to move to mpeg-4 streaming. Is this something that can be done with VLC alone, or in combination with other solutions? If so, where are the best docs on this for someone who knows nothing about VLC?

You can stream video with VLC especially mp4 (mp4v/mp4a).
Use the transcoding wizard.

OK, that is great to hear! So, we can stream live content on the web.

Can all content be archived, and indexed easily, so viewers can pick the parts of our archive they want to view? (like a play list)
