How to input audio from microphone?

Postby tiantao » 14 Jun 2004 14:51

Hi all,
I am using VLC 0.7.2 in my windows and Linux and it's cool. I can even use it to capture video from webcam and multicast it out, it's really a greate work. Now I wonder to know how can I input audio from microphone?
I tried with choosing "Open Capture Device", and in the "Audio Device Name", there is 3 choice - default, none and VIA's AC97 Audio(WAVE)". I chose the AC97 and in the "stream output" I chose "play locally". Then after I click ok, there is nothing but only big noise.
I think I must have something wrong with my option, how should I do to get audio input from microphone?
Thank you for reading my question, and hope you can give me some advice:) thank you!

you should check your mixer settings that the microphone is selected as recording device, that it is muted, and that the volume is at a sane level. Then you should make sure that the microphone does not pick up the sound from your speakers when playing locally, otherwise you will get feedback.

First of all, thank you for your response! I checked my control pannel, in the sound recording's device, it is "VIA's AC97 wave", which is the name of my compositived sound card. In the recording control, the mic is selected. I tried the recording using "Sound Recorder" of Windows, it works well. Then I turn to the VLC, now I made some progress than before, I can hear my sound from microphone. But there is too much noise, with the sound is quivery and palsied. I can hardly recognize my sound through it. Can you give me some suggestion of it?
Thank you!
