I'm having a problem with playing .flv files.
VideoLAN 0.8.6a is stopping the video playback, if I forward or reward the video bar.

Try the nightly builds (can't link so do a search). There has been some improvement in the handling of the flv format.

If you have already viewed a particular segment of video, it is possible to move back to a previous time.
Media Player Classic is able to move forward.

No, it isn't possible to move back to a previous time. VLC would stop the playback immediately.
Media Player Classic is able to move forward.
