It was set on 1.000000 so I put in 2.000000 and save and it doesnt seem to be doing anything every movie I watch it is too dark and this is the only problem I am having with the player other than that it is working great. any help if you can please anyone. Motorhead.

Any time you make changes to preferences you must press Save and close the player for the changes to take effect.

Perhaps the best way of doing this is with the overlay options for your video card while playing a video.

There is also the Extended GUI in VLC that allows setting this in real time and it uses real filters rather than adjusting the overlay for your video card, but VLC does read these settings.

Extended GUI

Hello,
The Extended GUI does not work with me (Win XP). I am not allowed to tick boxes or move sliders in it when a video is played. I can do these, however, before the video.

This has to be a limitation of your system some how as I have never experienced or heard about this issue. Try pausing the video before making the change.
