Streaming the desktop

Can I select the desktop as a video-input for VLC to stream? I heard a viscious rumour that this was possible in the nightly builds.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

You can (even with old versions). Use screen:// as the input.

Very fun ...

But which transcode/CPU couple can support real-time encode 1024x768 (or more) RV24 desktop ...

Somebody has succeeded a such thing ...
