Older G3 Hardware DVD decoding support.

Quote from VLV Readme file:

"...don't ever expect VLC to be able to decode MPEG-2 streams or high resolution DivX on a low-end G3 machine. Apple DVD player uses specific hardware accelerations from the video board of those systems, and we currently lack documentation to do the same. If you think you have information which might help us, please contact us..."

Exactly what documentation/information is required to help with this process?
Are we talking decoder chips? Their Firmware? What do you need?

We are talking real advanced chipdescriptions and programming.
Actually, unless you plan to do it yourself, don't expect anyone else to do it. Also this is only valid for some G3's, most G3's don't even have this piece of extra hardware.

Decoders

I have the DVD decoder PCMCIA card that was required to watch movies on Wallstreet/lombard PBs. Since you can get a PCI to PCMCIA adapter for desktops, I see no reason why it wouldn't work for a desktop too. Then again you always have the option of changing the graphics card in a desktop.
If someone could support the PCMCIA card, it would be an almost universal solution for G3 owners.
I don't have a clue how to do anything like this, but I'm up for having a go....

You will need to do a computer science course before you attempt something like this. It will be easier and cheaper to just get a G4 or G5 Mac.
