I'd like to have a VLC broadcast from files contained in a folder on disk. No problem here, just open the folder in the playlist and the files therein are read, and played repeatedly.

But let's say some files are added to the directory. How can I get VLC to re-read the contents of the directory to get new files in the broadcast loop?

This is called "live folder". It's been on our todo list for a while and I think it's even one of our Mini Projects, which we have outstanding for "new developers" as an entry level project.

So if a new developer reports himself then this is one of the projects he might choose. But that's no garantuee that it is gonna happen anytime soon of course.
