hello,
I try to play a divx on my pc with vlc and then put only the stream to my dreambox (set-top-box)over LAN. The dreambox have a linux-system. So the box needn´t to encode the divx, only play the coming mpeg. Is it possible with vlc? If it is possible, tell me how I have to do it.
Thank you!
Sorry about my bad english, I am german.

As far as I know, the dreambox is unable to read MPEG4... so you'll have to transcode the stream in MPEG2 before sending it. Then, you'll have to make your dreambox receive the stream (via HTTP or UDP ?) and set VLC to send the stream the proper manner.

Yes, that was my question! I know, the dreambox is unable to play mpeg4, but in future the dream can do this job, because the hardware is able, but IBM cannot give the drivers or something like that. I mean they have not the license to do that.
I don´t know how I have to set vlc to do this job. Can you tell me, because I don´t understand your last sentence: "...and set VLC to send the stream the proper manner."
Could you please explain it in another way? Thanks.

My last sentence meant taht I don't know whether the Dreambos was able to read a network strem (last time I played with one, it was unable to make so, but perhaps it has changed). Then, if the dreambox is able to recieve a network stream, you'll have to figure out which way : using http ou udp as a "transport layer".

About the transcode syntax, well, the best would be to use the gui : check the stream output box, and open the parametters box. Every parametter you'll ever need is available there...
