Command line under Linux

I want to stream out a video file with command line
I tried this command line under windows and it works well
vlc /tmp/ted/a.avi :sout=#duplicate{dst=std{access=udp,mux=ts,url=239.20.30.40:1234}}
but when I type the same thing under Linux, it doesn't work
How should I type the command under Linux to let it work?
Thank you for seeing my question and hope your reply:)
