real audio support - why not?

The faq states: "At present, especially WMV3, the most Real Player, and the most Indeo Video ("IV50", etc.) files are not supported by VLC and are not going to be in the near future."

I've tried to search for the reason why real audio support will not be implimented on these forums, but with no luck. I'm just curious I guess, cus VLC is such a great player and it will be complete (in my opinion) with real audio support. Does anyone know the reason? Thanks!

real audio (at least cook audio) support is available in the latest beta versions.

The basic reason why some codecs aren't supported by VLC is that no open source decoder exist for these codecs.

There is a free Real codec from Real Alternative. Is it possible to add codecs to VLC?

I'm wondering how and why the MPlayer codecs are decoding Real Video & Audio even MPlayer is an open source program too?

mplayer uses the binary codecs provided in real player. I guarantee that we would alread have included open source codecs in VLC. (use search.php next time)
