Well, it seems the windows GDI out seems broken. I need to use it for some image capture software that I wrote.. it would be *extremely* handy if I could grab stuff from VLC.. any ideas on how I can fix it or whether it is an actual bug?

Whoops, not used to forums where I don't need to be logged in to post. This post belongs to me!

I didn't mention which version I was using, well.. I've tested it on
0.5.3, 0.6.2 and even 0.7.0-test1, and I get the same problem in all of them.

Oh, alternatively if anyone cane name some API I can use to grab directx from the screen, I'd be grateful...

taking a screenshot should (as far as I know) work with directx output, by disabling overlay in the video prefs

Thanks! I can't believe I missed that :D

But still, the GDI output is broken.. think anyone will take a look at that?

I was informed the writer of the plugin could never get it working. apparently it has been in a semi broken state from the beginning

I just fixed that in CVS.

Tested on 16/24/32 bits color depth display.
With 8bits color depth the colors are still completely messed up due to the color palette not being set.
