Hi,

when playing a mpeg with AC3-2.0 and PCM Stereo audio in it I can choose between both in vlc which is quite nice but the AC3-Stream is not passed to my SPDIF-Out (onBoard) although I choosed SPDIF in Options>Plug-Ins>audio output>aout_file>Output Format - is there another option anywhere to deactivate the AC3-Decoder or doesn't it simply work?

i have the same setup and AC3 works just fine. to use the SPDIF try looking under the Audio Device tab, sometimes i get a SPDIF option with multi-channel data. GL

Start of by telling what operating system you are on. On windows I think you can set the soundcard to pass stereo pcm through the spdif somewhere in the control panel. Then you can play with the "audio device" menu in vlc. "stereo" will now pass decoded pcm data through spdif, while "A5/2 over spdif" will pass the raw dolby digital to the external decoder.

Personally I use linux with alsa. Here I get decoded pcm over spdif by using --alsadev hw:0,2

Ah thanks, your post brought me to the general sound-options which I must have ignored before, specially the Use SPDIF-Option *gg*
Now I get both PCM and AC3 bitstreams at my receiver :)
