Hi Friends,
May I know is there any problem with the VLC streaming over network. While I tried to stream video over LAN with the following settings, the total bitrate gets a value higher than 750kbps. Is there any solution to prevent this bitrate problem or is this a bug in VLC? pls help
The Stream output configuaration was as shown below:
Output method : UDP
Port : 1234 (Default)
Transcoding options:
Video Codec - Mp4
Bitrate - 384kbps
Scale - 1
Audio Codec - disabled.
Thanks in advance,
With rgds,
vlcuser.

Maybe the audio is 270 kbps ?
And it's 750 averabe or in peack ? Because here the 384 mean average

I disabled the audio codedc and tried to stream again, but now the average bitrate is 550kbps, but I configured in VLC that the bitrate must be 384kbps. Any solution for this problem?

VLC for a certain width x height @ 25fps, it's just not possible to encode in mpeg4 with less quality (ergo a less bitrate). So in this case you will have to bring the resolution and framerate down, otherwise VLC will never be able to get to such a low bitrate.

Can I make any changes in the VLC code so that I can achieve such a low bitrate. Or can I specify any parameters in the VLC to reduce the
width, hight and frames/second. If its possible, then I can accomplish my goal....

I think I have the same problem or atleast very close to it.
I use this row for VLC 0.8.4a in windows:
Code: Select all
vlc -vvv udp://@:5000 --sout="#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=96,fps=15,height=176,width=144,acodec=mp4a,ab=16,samplerate=16000,channels=1,audio-sync}:rtp{dst=127.0.0.1,port=24000,ttl=64,sdp=rtsp://192.168.0.4:8000/sample.sdp}"
When I open the stream in quicktime on the same computer, quicktime says that the bitrate is 80-150 mbit/s. Shouldn´t it be 96+16=112kbit/s ?
The reason I need that low bitrates is that I will stream to a mobile device.
What am I doing wrong?

How do we set the bitrate to 128kb/s video, 96kb/s audio, and have it work?
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,
U can set the bitrates in the Stream output option.
- Select File -> Open
Check the Stream out put (This option is for video streaming...)
Now Click on Settings button
You will get a Stream output settings dialog. Here u can set the different streaming options. U can also specify he bitrate on Transcoding option in the same dialog.

I think this is because VLC using a Variable Bitrate Codec. So we cannot expect a constant bit rate. Thats y u don't get 112kbit/s.

Yeah but why is it 124 Mbit/s instead o kbit/s?

I don't know why ur application showing 124 Mbit/s.... use some tools like
netpersec to check the bitrate over network, may be this tool can tell u the actual bitrate....

VLC doesn't provide "bandwith information" usually for it's RTSP sessions. I guess that confuses the QuickTime player.
