m3u8 File Plays Multiple Audio Tracks Simultaneously

I am trying to download a streaming video to my computer so that I can watch it offline. I am able to save it as an mp4, but the audio is playing multiple languages simultaneously (i.e., English and Spanish).

The streaming source is m3u8 and I'm using VLC Media Player 3.0 on Mac.
  1. File > Open Network
  2. URL: m3u8 file path
  3. Stream Output: selected
  4. Settings: Save to file
  5. Encapsulation Method: MPEG 4
I tried fiddling with the Transcoding Options: Audio > Channels, but it didn't make any difference.

On the website where the video is hosted, you can choose from a couple languages. I have selected English from the web browser controls. That is all I hear when viewing on the site.

Once the file is saved as an mp4, I play it with Preview or QuickTime Player. I hear both English and Spanish tracks at the same time. If I go to View > Languages in QuickTime, there are no options available to select from.

Thanks for your suggestions.

How many audio tracks does VLC list for the MP4? That sounds like a QucikTime problem, TBH.

Thanks for your reply.

I can see three languages if I play the file using VLC. So perhaps you're correct that the issue is QuickTime.

Is there a recommended workaround where I can force VLC to save / convert with only a single audio track?
