Hi everyone...Windows 11 Home, 16GB RAM and Intel Core i7-1165G7 here...I am a complete newbie to both VLC as well as to plugins...for midi file playback right now I am using fluidsynth as a soundfont, but I searched and found out that Kontakt can be used for midi sounds and that it should work with VLC...can't figure out how to direct midi files to play utilizing Kontakt and not fluidsynth...my other concern is will Kontakt, like fluidsynth, adhere to general midi mapping and play like-sounding instruments automatically from the midi file? Any and all help GREATLY appreciated. Many, many thanks y'all!!

I have no idea about using Kontakt with VLC and if it's even possible.
FluidSynth is free and open source while Kontakt is a commercial software and I'm quite sure VLC will never use nor support any commercial software. Ask Kontakt support about how to do it.

If Kontakt has an API to render MIDI, then this should be possible privately, but you will have to write the code yourself (or contract someone to do it, which is probably going to be very expensive).

That said, you are free to pick a better and proprietary sound font than whatever you currently have. FluidSynth is not good or bad as such, it's all down to the quality of the sound font. So I don't see the point in moving away from FluidSynth.
