An odd one, VLC is not completely at fault here.
I've also submitted a support ticket to SiliconDust.
The HDHomeRun broadcasts multiple SSDP messages, one of which contains fe80 link local addresses. While these are "valid", the device doesn't seem able to stream via them.
If VLC picked up the IPv4 addresses in this case, everything would work correctly.
